Very Interesting Family Photograph Album, There are over 50 photos of which half of them are military (some SS and some WW1 photos) This is the story about SS Unterscharfuhrer Heinrich Flender, born on 17.08.1924 in Ferndorf, after his time with the Hitlerjugend he joined the Waffen SS he fought with the 1st SS – Panzer – Division Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler on the Eastern Front, here he received at least the verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and the EK2 (as can be seen in the photo with the young guys of the 12th SS Pz Div) He most probably transferred in 1943 with some hundreds of other officers and Unteroffiziere to the newly created 12th SS – Panzer – Division HITLERJUGEND, it was their job to train the new recruits most of whom were born in 1926,
As can be seen in image 14 he was transferred to the 7/ SS – Panzer grenadier Regiment 26 under the command of Henne, he probably served in this unit as platoon leader, there is one photo that shows Flender with all the young guys under his command, after the Allied invasion the division was sent to Normandy where the first units came into battle on the 7th June 1944,
The SS Panzergrenadier – Regiment 26 arrived in Normandy on the evening of 7th June, the 7/SS Pz Gren Rgt 26 had to attack Puton-en-bessin on 8th June 1944, but not with Heinrich Flender he had already been killed on the 7th June 1944, probably one of the first men of his unit to be killed, judging by the date and unit he was probably killed in the evening of that day when his company advanced from their position near Hottot at 20.00hrs and tried to approach Puton-en-bassin from the south west but were repelled by artillery fire when they were some 300 Meters south west of the railway,
Today Heinrich Flender is buried at the Bayeux war cemetery, Block 17 Reihe B Grab 11, he is also mentioned on the memorial in his birth town of Ferndorf, As already said this is a real family photo album, there are some photos of his family, some photos of his grandfather during WW1, photos from his youth, his civilian life, from his time in the DJ/HJ and finally photos of his time in the SS, some with the LSSAH in Russia and also with the young boys of the HITLERJUGEND Division
